Day 119: Why I'm Not Putting All My Eggs In One Basket
Friday, June 12, 2026
Today officially marks Day 119 of my journey to $40,000 per month.
And if you're wondering why there wasn't a Day 118 update yesterday...
Honestly?
I completely forgot.
No dramatic story. No emergency. No life-changing event.
I just got so caught up learning and working on my new Rank & Rent business that my daily blog completely slipped my mind.
Oops.
But I'm back today, and I do have some good news to share.
The Money Update
The amount of money that has hit my bank account so far in June is now up to:
$2,355.85
The biggest reason for that jump?
My regular call center paycheck landed yesterday for $2,018.24.
It's funny because when people follow my journey, they sometimes assume I'm desperately trying to escape my job as quickly as possible.
The truth is a little more complicated than that.
Even if every online business I own suddenly stopped making money tomorrow, I'd still be okay.
I'd still have a paycheck.
I'd still have health insurance.
I'd still have stability.
And honestly, that's not a bad position to be in.
These days I'm thinking I'll probably keep my call center job until I eliminate my remaining debts. After that, we'll see what happens.
If my online income keeps growing, maybe I'll leave.
If not, that's okay too.
I don't feel nearly as much pressure as I used to.
And that's actually a pretty good feeling.
My Email List Keeps Shrinking (And I'm Weirdly Happy About It)
My email list is now sitting at:
2,993 leads
Yep.
Still going down.
At first, seeing that number decline would have bothered me.
Now?
Not so much.
Because something interesting has been happening.
My open rates have been climbing.
Lately I've been consistently seeing open rates above 30%, which makes me pretty happy.
I'd rather have a smaller group of people who actually read my emails than a giant list that ignores everything I send.
Quality beats quantity.
Every time.
As I spend more time building Rank & Rent websites, I suspect my list size will continue drifting downward because I'll naturally be spending less time focused on email marketing.
And honestly, I'm okay with that.
The Big Question I've Been Asking Myself
Lately I've been thinking a lot about my long-term strategy.
Do I go all-in on Rank & Rent?
It's tempting.
Every business model has that honeymoon phase where it feels like you've finally found "the thing."
But I've been down that road before.
A while back I got excited about faceless YouTube automation and decided to go all-in.
The result?
I made exactly:
$0
Not my finest moment.
That experience taught me something important.
I don't want my future to depend on a single income source.
I don't want all my eggs in one basket.
So instead of abandoning everything else, I think my plan going forward looks something like this:
Affiliate Marketing
Email Marketing
Rank & Rent
My Call Center Job
At least for now.
Could one of those eventually become my primary source of income?
Absolutely.
But I don't see any reason to burn down bridges that are still working.
The goal isn't to find the perfect business.
The goal is to build enough income streams that losing one doesn't destroy everything.
The Truth About My Job
Here's something that might surprise you.
I don't actually hate my call center job.
Is it my dream job?
No.
But it's easy.
The people are nice.
The insurance is good.
And it pays the bills.
Would I like the freedom to work entirely for myself someday?
Absolutely.
That's still the goal.
But I'm no longer operating from a place of desperation.
I'm building toward freedom instead of running away from something.
And I think that's a much healthier mindset.
Final Thoughts
If there's one thing I've learned during this journey, it's that building income online isn't usually one giant breakthrough.
It's a series of small decisions stacked on top of each other over time.
Some work.
Some fail.
Some surprise you.
And sometimes you forget to write your blog for a day because you're busy learning something new.
That's all part of the process.
I'll keep documenting the wins, the mistakes, the numbers, and everything in between.
And hopefully you'll learn something from my journey along the way.
