Day 65: Cutting What Doesn’t Work (Even When You Like It)

April 20, 20263 min read

So today is Sunday, April 19th, 2026… and this is officially day 65 of my journey towards $40,000/month.

And today was one of those weird days where you’re making progress… but you also have to let something go.

You know that feeling?

Let’s get into it.

First, quick numbers update.

As of today, the amount of money that has actually hit my bank account for April is sitting at $4,658.80.

Not bad at all for a single month.

But I’ll be honest with you… I’m still waiting on a pretty big commission that’s stuck in “pending” right now. Based on timing, it should clear in the next couple days—but I’ve learned not to count anything until it actually lands.

If you’ve ever waited on money like that, you know the feeling… it’s like watching water boil.

Now let’s talk about something I’m actually really excited about…

My email list is now sitting at 3,536 leads.

That number keeps climbing, and a big reason for that is the paid traffic I’ve been testing.

And here’s my honest take so far:

Paid traffic gets a bad reputation sometimes… but if you’re getting leads at a reasonable cost, it can actually be a really solid way to grow.

The real question isn’t just “Can I get leads?”

It’s…

“Can I turn those leads into people who trust me enough to actually take action?”

And that part? That’s on me.

That’s my emails.
That’s my content.
That’s how real I’m willing to be with people.

So we’ll see how that plays out over time.

Now… here’s the part of the day that honestly kind of sucked.

I canceled one of my favorite tools.

Not because I wanted to…

But because the numbers forced me to.

I was running a viral-style campaign where people could unlock something called Jack’s Digital Toolbox by referring others to my funnel.

(Quick context: it’s basically a collection of the exact tools, programs, and resources I personally use to build my online business.)

And on paper… it sounded like a great idea.

But in reality?

It just wasn’t producing enough leads or commissions to justify the cost.

And this is something I think a lot of people don’t talk about enough…

Just because something is “cool”… doesn’t mean it’s profitable.

Even if you like it.
Even if it worked before.
Even if you want it to work.

At the end of the day, if something is consistently losing you money… it has to go.

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad tool.

It just means it’s not the right fit right now.

I might come back to it later with a better angle, a stronger reward, or a bigger campaign.

But for now?

I’m doubling down on what’s actually working.

And honestly… that’s the game I’m learning to play.

Not chasing every shiny thing.

Not forcing things that aren’t working.

But slowly dialing in what does work—and putting more energy there.

If you’re reading this and you’re trying to figure all this out too…

I get it.

I’ve worked a bunch of jobs that just felt like… going through the motions.

Waking up to alarms.
Dragging yourself through the day.
Waiting for the weekend.

And deep down knowing you want something different.

That’s a big part of why I’m documenting this journey publicly.

No hype. No pretending everything is perfect.

Just showing you what’s actually happening… day by day.

Wins, mistakes, and everything in between.

If you want to learn exactly what I’m doing (and what I wish I understood way earlier)…

I put together a free training that breaks it down in a simple, beginner-friendly way.

Either way, appreciate you being here and following along.

I’ll see you tomorrow for day 66.
